Hyundai Motor Co. says the FE Fuel Cell Concept it unveiled at this week’s Geneva auto show will influence the production fuel cell model it plans to launch next year.
The FE (for Future Eco) crossover concept incorporates the carmaker’s fourth-generation fuel cell technology, which Hyundai says has a 30% greater power density and is 10% more efficient. The fuel cell system also is 20% lighter and enables a driving range of about 500 miles between hydrogen fill-ups, according to the carmaker.
Among the vehicle’s new features is an internal air humidifier that recycles water emitted by the fuel cell system to create a more comfortable cabin environment. Other goodies include portable battery packs—charged by the car’s energy output—to power passenger devices, and space in the trunk to store an electric scooter and charging unit.
