The facility will have capacity to make 120,000 vehicles per year, including so-called “new-energy” models with hybrid or all-electric powertrains.
Dongfeng Honda Automobile Co. currently has annual capacity to make 480,000 vehicles in China. The venture makes CR-V and XR-V crossover vehicles, Civic small sedans and Gienia small hatchbacks. The partners expect to sell about 450,000 vehicles this year.
Honda also makes cars through a Chinese venture with Guangzhou Automobile Group. When the new factory opens in Wuhan, Honda’s overall annual auto production capacity in China will be 1.25 million units. The Japanese carmaker expects its combined sales in China this year will total 1.2 million vehicles.
