The plug-in hybrid variant of Honda Motor Co.’s fuel cell-powered Clarity midsize sedan will be base-priced at $33,400 when it debuts in the U.S. next month.

The Touring trim edition of the 2018 model will sticker for $36,600. Both versions of the plug-in hybrid are eligible for a U.S. federal tax credit of $7,500 and additional state rebates where available.

Honda launched the fuel cell version of the Clarity last December and added battery all-electric variant in August. The plug-in hybrid model is expected to be the sales leader among the three.

The plug-in hybrid system teams a 1.5-liter Atkinson cycle 4-cylinder engine with an electric motor that produces 181 hp and 232 lb-ft of torque. The combination provides a total driving range of 340 miles, including an industry-best 47 miles in electric-only mode. The 17-kWh battery pack can be recharged in 2.5 hours by a 240-volt source.
