The partners intend to focus on in-car e-commerce, mobile payment systems, new-energy cars, big data and the use of driver aids that use artificial intelligence.
Tencent is a relative latecomer to the global scramble between carmakers and tech companies to partner on technologies for connected and autonomous cars. In March the company spent $1.8 billion to acquires a 5% stake in electric carmaker Tesla Inc.
Tencent also has made investments in cloud computing and online financing. Within the past two years it has provided financial support for two China-based EV startups: Future Mobility Corp. and NextEV Inc.
