Alphabet Inc.’s latest update for its Google Maps app for Android smartphones allows users to manually save their parking spot location, a more accurate option than automated tagging.
After parking, users tap a blue dot on their phone to pinpoint and save their vehicle’s location. Previous versions of the app automatically detected when a vehicle had stopped and saved its location. But users complained that the system could be off by as much as a few blocks and didn’t work well in multi-level structures.
The new app allows users to enter notes—such as "parked in row X behind pickup truck"—and attach photos to the reminder. Users also can input parking meter information to alert them when their time is about to expire.
