General Motors Co. tells Sao Paulo's O Estado de S Paulo newspaper that the company may need another Brazilian assembly plant in about three years if the country's auto market continues to grow at a 5% annual pace.

Jaime Ardila, president of GM's South American unit, says the company will announce a new Brazilian investment plan in the second quarter.

GM do Brasil is just completing a five-year, 5 billion-real ($2.5 billion) program that included 60,000 units of additional capacity at its car factory in Sao Caetano do Sul near Sao Paulo.

Ardila says GM also is considering whether to add new vehicle programs at its car factory in Sao Jose dos Campos, which is scheduled to end production late this year. He notes that workers there agreed last month to a new labor pact that includes more flexible work rules.

GM has already agreed to invest 500 million reals ($253 million) in its engine facility in Sao Jose dos Campos. The complex also includes a truck plant, which makes such models as the Chevrolet S10 compact pickup.

And while on the subject of the exterior, there are some notable changes—a lower, remodeled hood, repositioned hood vents, new upper and lower front grilles, LED front lights, revised LED taillamps, new rear bumper and fascia.
