GM Moving Next-Generation Camaro Production to U.S.
General Motors Co. says it will move assembly operations for its rear-wheel-drive Camaro sport coupe from Oshawa, Ontario, to Lansing, Mich., when the next-generation model debuts roughly three years from now.
General Motors Co. says it will move assembly operations for its rear-wheel-drive Camaro sport coupe from Oshawa, Ontario, to Lansing, Mich., when the next-generation model debuts roughly three years from now.
The Lansing plant already makes the rear-drive 2013 Cadillac CTS sport coupe and ATS models. GM says the move was prompted by production efficiencies and lower capital investment.
Analysts say the move confirms that the new Camaro will ride on the rear-drive Alpha platform that debuted earlier this year beneath the ATS.
GM says the Oshawa plant will continue to meet production targets set out by the company in exchange for Canadian bailout funds during its bankruptcy restructuring. The facility will continue to build the Buick Regal sedan and will launch production of the Cadillac XTS and next-generation Chevrolet Impala large sedans next year.
