General Motors Co. plans to spend $384 million to retool its Detroit-Hamtramck assembly plant to produce the next-generation Chevrolet Volt extended-range hybrid and two other unspecified models.
The company also will invest $65 million to upgrade its lithium-ion battery plant in Brownstown Township, Mich., to make next-generation batteries and other battery systems.
