General Motors Co. and Honda Motor Co. are discussing plans to collaborate on a factory that would supply both companies with fuel cells for electric cars, the Asahi Shimbun reports.
The two carmakers began collaborating on fuel-cell development two years ago. Both have said they aim to mass produce electric cars powered by fuel cells within 10 years. Supplying the fuel cell systems from a single plant would help reduce production costs.
Reuters notes that BMW and Toyota also are partnering on fuel-cell development work. Daimler, Ford and Nissan are doing the same.
