General Motors Co. has suspended production of the diesel-powered variants of its Chevrolet Sail mini sedan and hatchback and Tavera compact MPV for more than a week.
GM cites a "potential emissions performance issue" with the 1.3-liter diesel engine in those vehicles. The company also asked its dealers in India to stop selling those models.
GM says the problem is a not a safety issue, and it doesn't know whether a recall will be necessary.
It is unclear when the company plans to resume output of those models. Production of gasoline-powered versions of the Sail and Tavera have not been affected.
