General Motors Co. publicly introduced its newest truck, the midsize 2015 Chevrolet Colorado, at the Los Angeles auto show on Wednesday and confirms the pickup will be offered with a diesel engine in its second year on the market.
The Colorado will offer two engines at launch next September: a 2.5-liter I-4 that makes 193 hp and 184 lb-ft of torque, and a 3.6-liter V-6 that produces 302 hp and 270 lb-ft of torque. Both powerplants are teamed with a 6-speed automatic transmission. Four wheel-drive will be optional for the rear-drive truck.
Body configurations include an extended cab with a 6-foot bed, a crew cab with a 5-foot bed and a crew cab with a 6-foot bed. GM says a properly equipped Colorado will be able to haul or tow as much as 6,700 lbs.
When a 2.8-liter I-4 turbodiesel joins the engine options for the 2016 model year, the Colorado will be the only small pickup in the American market with a diesel.
The all-new Colorado shares its platform with GM's small global trucks but has been uniquely designed and engineered for the North American market. GM is expected to unveil a sibling, the GMC Canyon, at the Detroit auto show in January. Both trucks will be built at GM"s factory in Wentzville, Missouri.
