Gett Founder Predicts Huge Surge in Ride-Hailing
In 10 years, ride-hailing services will account for half the passenger miles covered by cars, predicts the bullish founder and CEO of Gett, the Israeli car-hailing startup that formed a strategic partnership last month with Volkswagen AG.
In 10 years, ride-hailing services will account for half the passenger miles covered by cars, predicts the bullish founder and CEO of Gett, the Israeli car-hailing startup that formed a strategic partnership last month with Volkswagen AG.
Shahar Waiser points out that other car-hailing services, such as Uber, have tripled trip-mile totals over the past year, the Financial Times reports. The newspaper says such providers are now delivering 1 million miles of passenger trips per day.
Waiser concedes the total is microscopic compared with miles self-driven by conventional vehicle owners. But he declares on-demand miles could equal driven miles a decade from now.
Carmakers such as BMW, General Motors, Toyota and Volkswagen have been rushing this year to partner with ride-share and ride-hailing companies. One reason, according to FT: They hope to sell enough cars to drivers providing such services to offset the loss of sales to consumers who give up their vehicles and hail rides instead.
