Germany Awards More Automated, Connected Vehicle Research Programs

German Federal Minister Alexander Dobrindt has approved €22 million ($26 million) for 13 new research projects as part of the country’s automation and networking in road traffic program.

German Federal Minister Alexander Dobrindt has approved €22 million ($26 million) for 13 new research projects as part of the country’s automation and networking in road traffic program.

About €9 million is earmarked for a two-year project in Dusseldorf that will focus on the interoperability of several driver-assistance functions in real-world conditions. Industry partners include Mobileye, Siemens, Vodafone and ZF.

Other programs will test automated and connected vehicle technologies in Berlin and on the A9 autobahn in Bavaria. Since December 2016, the research program has awarded 20 projects with funding totaling €47 million ($54 million).
