Ford Venture in China Buys Unused Auto Plant

Ford and partner Chongqing Changan Automobile Co. have spent 6.6 billion yuan ($1.1 billion) to acquire an idled auto assembly plant from Harbin Hafei Automobile Group Co., a unit of Chongqing Changan.

Ford and partner Chongqing Changan Automobile Co. have spent 6.6 billion yuan ($1.1 billion) to acquire an idled auto assembly plant from Harbin Hafei Automobile Group Co., a unit of Chongqing Changan.

The factory in northeast China will give Changan Ford 200,000 units of additional capacity to make Ford-brand vehicles. The partners expect to launch production in the second half of 2016.

The Harbin Hafei facility will boost Ford's capacity in China to 1.6 million vehicles.
