Ford Motor Co. will announce within this quarter plans to erect a $1.5 billion auto plant in San Luis Potosi, Mexico, sources tell Reuters.
The facility reportedly will have capacity to make about 350,000 cars per year. It isn’t clear which models will be built there. But Reuters notes that Ford said last autumn it will move production of its Focus small car in 2018 from Wayne, Mich., to an unspecified location outside the U.S.
Ford currently operates three factories in Mexico that make Fiesta minicars in Cuautitlan, Fusion and Lincoln MKZ sedans in Hermosillo and engines in Chihuahua.
