Ford Motor Co. says it will spend €600 million ($645 million) to upgrade its assembly plant in Saarlouis, Germany, to produce the company’s next-generation Focus small car.

The investment will include two new hot-stamp presses, logistical support and energy-saving cogeneration systems that are expected to lower the factory’s carbon dioxide output by 20%.

The Saarlouis plant employs 6,200 people who build current-generation versions of the Focus, Focus ST and Focus Electric models.
