Fees Push Price of Tesla EV to $121,400 in China
Tesla Motors Inc. says its popular Model S electric sedan with maximum-range battery will retail in China for $121,400 (734,000 yuan), including $40,300 (243,900 yuan) to cover shipping, import duties and local taxes.

Tesla Motors Inc. says its popular Model S electric sedan with maximum-range battery will retail in China for $121,400 (734,000 yuan), including $40,300 (243,900 yuan) to cover shipping, import duties and local taxes.
The same car retails for $81,100 in the U.S. Tesla emphasizes that it has not hiked the car's actual price in China.
The company hasn't said how many Model S cars it expects to sell in China, where a charging infrastructure is almost nonexistent. Tesla intends to erect a network of its direct-current Supercharger facilities in the country, which will customers may use at no cost to replenish half their car's power capacity in about 20 minutes.
Tesla sold 22,300 Model S car in 2013 and is expanding into Asia, beginning in Hong Kong, and Europe. The company intends to add a Model X crossover based on the Model S about one year from now and is developing a third sedan it says will be priced at half that of the Model S.
