FCA to Blend Google, Samsung In-Car Connectivity Platforms

Fiat Chrysler Automobiles NV has chosen connectivity platforms from Google and Samsung for its vehicles worldwide.
FCA says it will begin rolling out the dual connected system in the second half of 2019 and offer it in all its new vehicles worldwide by 2022.
The plan will use Samsung’s cloud-based Harmon Ignite platform to handle in-vehicle data connectivity for such services as predictive maintenance alerts, restaurant offers, traffic prompts, locating service stations and receiving over-the-air software updates.
FCA says the platform will utilize 4G networks initially but can move to faster 5G capabilities when they become widely available.
Services connected to the car by Harmon Ignite will be handled within the vehicle by Google’s Android technology. The platform, which includes a built-in cellular network, will wirelessly link the driver’s smartphone with the vehicle.
