FCA to Add Thousands of Pacifica Minivans to Waymo’s Driverless Fleet
Fiat Chrysler Automobiles NV says it will supply “thousands” more of its Chrysler Pacifica minivans to Waymo’s existing 600-unit fleet of Pacifica autonomous vehicles.
Fiat Chrysler Automobiles NV says it will supply “thousands” more of its Chrysler Pacifica minivans to Waymo’s existing 600-unit fleet of Pacifica autonomous vehicles.
Waymo CEO John Krafcik says the additional vehicles will help Waymo scale up the on-road tests of its autonomous-driving system. The company began tests last year of the self-driving minivans, all with backup drivers on board, in 25 U.S. cities.
Last November Waymo began testing self-driving minivans with no backup driver on board. The company is eager to polish its technology enough to launch a ride-hailing service that uses a fleet of fully robotic vehicles.
FCA will supply the latest round of Pacificas in several batches beginning later this year.
