Germany’s Federal Motor Transport Authority (KBA) has asked for meetings this week with representatives from Fiat Chrysler Automobiles and Opel about emissions from their diesel vehicles.

Transport Minister Alexander Dobrindt offered reporters no details about the meetings. But the announcement came a day after environmental activist group Deutsche Umweltilfe said tests show diesel-powered Fiat 500X and Opel Astra and Zafira vehicles emitted far more pollution than allowed by regulators.

The group claims some Opel diesels were rigged to switch off their emission controls under a wide variety of operating conditions. Opel denies cheating. FCA declined to comment on the report.
