Fiat Chrysler Automobiles NV and Amazon.com plan to begin selling three car models online in Italy.
The point-and-click process will give shoppers a choice of three Fiat minicars: the 500, 500L and best-selling Panda. FCA tells reporters it will hike existing discounts for the models by about one-third for online shoppers.
As with similar programs in the U.S., customers will select their vehicles online but be directed to a dealer to complete the purchase and receive their cars. FCA says the process from initial click to delivery should take about two weeks.
FCA says its research found that half of consumers in Italy were willing to order a vehicle online, but almost all want to go to a dealership to get it. The company expects most of its online customers will be young buyers.
