Easier door and window opening result from two industry giants collaborating

DuPont Transportation & Industrial and ExxonMobil Chemical’s specialty elastomers business have gotten together to develop new thermoplastic vulcanizate—which is important because it allows the production of corner mold seals for automotive doors and windows that are easier to open.

The Santoprene TPV B260 materials also feature better flow properties, abrasion resistance and UV light stability.

While this development is certainly notable for those who are involved in producing corner mold seals, it points to the sort of collaboration that is going on in a variety of areas within automotive—including materials.

According to Christophe Paulo, marketing manager, DuPont, “Our successful collaboration with ExxonMobil Chemical has achieved much more than cutting-edge TPV products. It has also laid the foundation for future projects that take advantage of the unique attributes of our silicone technologies to solve industry challenges and deliver a better consumer experience.”

Perhaps achieving a lower coefficient of friction for doors and windows doesn’t necessarily seem like a big thing, collaboration certainly is.
