Battery maker A123 Systems Inc. says the U.S. Dept. of Energy has agreed to give the battery maker two more years to use the $249 million DOE loan it was granted in 2009.
The extension will enable A123 to tap the loan until the end of 2014. The company, which is using the funds to build a new lithium-ion battery factory in Michigan, says it had received $127 million of the loan by the end of last year.
