General Motors Co.'s Buick Verano compact sedan is a likely candidate for diesel power in the coming year, according to multiple media reports.
Edmunds.com cites a GM source who confirms that a diesel is coming to an unnamed Buick model in the near future. Analysts suggest likely recipient will be the Verano because it shares its platform with the Chevrolet Cruze, which added a 151-hp, 264-lb-ft inline 4-cylinder diesel for the 2014 model year.
Both the Cruze and Verano get a major update for the 2016 model year.
Another possible candidate for diesel power is the hot-selling Buick Encore compact crossover. But reports say GM is considering a slightly larger 1.6-liter gasoline engine rather than diesel for that model to keep costs down.
