South Korea’s Hylium Industries Inc. is launching what it claims is the world's first mobile liquid-hydrogen refueling station for fuel cell powered vehicles.

Mounted on a five-ton truck, the mobile unit includes a liquid hydrogen pump, vaporizer, and dispenser. Hylium says the system is safer and more efficient than stations that store hydrogen as a high-pressure gas.

Hylium’s truck can store 7,500 liters (1,980 gallons) of low-pressure liquid hydrogen and is capable of fueling as many as 100 fuel cell cars per day. The liquid hydrogen is 99.99% pure, according to the company.

The mobile refueling station uses a 900-bar (13,000-psi) liquid hydrogen pump. This eliminates the need for a compressor and cooling system, which Hylium says significantly reduces equipment and driving costs.

Hylium was founded in 2014 and is a member of the Korea Institute of Science and Technology.
