Attendees at next January’s Detroit auto show will be able to experience various automated vehicle technologies on a closed-loop test track.
The 1.5-mile outdoor track, which is part of the show’s new AutoMobili-D expo, will run along the Detroit River adjacent to the auto show’s Cobo Center venue. There also will be a separate demonstration track within AutoMobil-D’s 120,000-sq-ft space at Cobo.
AutoMobil-D will start on Sunday, Jan. 8, and run through media and industry preview days Jan 9-12, ahead of the Detroit auto show. It will not be open to the general public.
Show organizers expect as many as 130 companies to participate in the event. The list of companies that have committed to date includes carmakers General Motors, Nissan and Toyota, and suppliers IBM, Magna, Schaeffler and ZF. Participating companies will be able to book an hour of track time to demonstrate an automated vehicle technology to visitors.
