Delphi Automotive plc has completed its purchase of nuTonomy Inc.—a 4-year-old startup that develops software used to control self-driving vehicles—for $450 million.
The Boston-based company will be combined with Delphi’s existing autonomous-driving group, which will more than double the 100-member team’s size. The two companies announced the deal in October.
The unit, along with Delphi’s electronics and safety operations, will be renamed Aptiv on Dec. 4. That’s when the company will spin off its powertrain systems business as Delphi Technologies.
Aptiv expects by the end of 2017 to be conducting real-world tests of 60 robotic cars on three continents. NuTonomy has been working on autonomous vehicle technologies with PSA Group in Singapore and ride-hailing service Lyft Inc. in Boston.
