Ford Motor Co. has delayed delivery of its GT supercars due to supplier constraints and unspecified testing issues, Automotive News reports.
The carmaker notified buyers earlier this week, AN says. The letter, which was signed by Ford Performance chief Dave Pericak and global marketing manager Henry Ford III, stated: "The craftsmanship required to build these vehicles for global markets has required that we adjust our original timing projections."
Ford says it has "nearly completed" the ramp-up process. The letter says owners can expect within a week to receive an updated three-month window for delivery of their vehicles.
Production of the GT started in December at Multimatic Inc.'s plant in Markham, Ont. About 50 of the supercars have been delivered to customers. The first batch of owners includes Chairman Bill Ford Jr., former CEO Mark Fields, comedian Jay Leno and performance guru Jack Roush.
Once the glitches are resolved, Ford plans to build the GT at a rate of one per a day. Annual production will be limited to 250 vehicles.
The $450,000 supercar is powered by a twin-turbo 3.5-liter V-6 engine that makes 647 hp and 550 lb-ft of torque. Mated with a 7-speed dual-clutch transmission, the engine propels the GT to a top speed of 216 mph.
