SF Motors Inc., a Chinese-owned company based in California, says it will begin making all-electric cars in Indiana late next year.
SF Motors says the facility will begin making SF5 midsize electric crossover vehicles next year and add the company’s fullsize SF7 crossover in 2020. The company says both models will be able to travel about 300 miles per charge. SF Motors said in March it would offer a 1,000-hp version that can scoot from zero to 60 mph in less than three seconds.
The company expects the Indiana plant’s employment will reach 200 by the end of this year and 435 by 2020. SF Motors say it will attempt to rehire many workers who were laid off when the facility was closed by AM General.
The company is a unit of China’s Chongqing Sokon Industry Group. The Indiana plant will serve the U.S. market, while a larger EV factory in Chongqing caters to China’s rapidly expanding vehicle electrification program.
