NextEV Inc. has unveiled its all-electric EP9 supercar that will be sold under the company’s new NIO brand.
The company, which was launched in 2014 by Chinese billionaire William Li, claims the EP9 can rocket from zero to 62 mph in 2.7 seconds and eclipse 124 mph in 7.1 seconds on its way to a top speed of nearly 200 mph. NextEV says the car recently set a track record for an EV at Germany’s famed Nurburgring Norschliefe with a time of 7 minutes and five seconds.
The vehicle is powered by four electric motors that produce a combined 1,360 hp. On the track, the EP9 is capable of 3G cornering forces, according to the carmaker.
No information about the car’s battery pack was provided. But NextEnergy says the system can be fully recharged in 45 minutes and provide a driving range of 265 miles.
Featuring a carbon fiber chassis and body, the EP9 tips the scale at 3,800 lbs. NextEV plans to build six of the vehicles, all of which have been pre-sold. The company says it also is developing a range of other EVs with various performance levels and price points that it plans to introduce in coming years.
