China’s FAW Jiefang Automotive Co. Ltd. has demonstrated a self-driving commercial truck at its tech center in Changchun City, the Shanghai Daily reports.
China’s FAW Jiefang Automotive Co. Ltd. has demonstrated a self-driving commercial truck at its tech center in Changchun City, the Shanghai Daily reports.
The heavy-duty vehicle obeyed traffic lights, recognized and steered around obstacles and could change speed, overtake slower vehicles and respond to remote commands, according to the report. FAW says it could commercialize its system as early as 2018.
FAW Jiefang General Manager Hu Hanjie tells the newspaper the company has created a supply chain of partners to develop, make, sell and service self-driving trucks.
