China startup WeRide.ai plans to launch an autonomous-driving commercial taxi service in Anqing and Guangzhou in July, The Nikki reports.
The company is testing 50 vehicles in China. Last month it demonstrated one of its Level 4-equipped Nissan Leaf electric sedans at a tech conference in California. Vehicles with Level 4 autonomy can drive themselves with no human intervention virtually anywhere within defined areas.
WeRide was founded in Silicon Valley but soon relocated its headquarters to Guangzhou in 2017 to focus on the China market. The company aims to expand its test fleet to 100 cars this year and 500 in 2020.
