China Central Television has accused several carmakers of selling defective products and/or charging too much for parts and repairs.
CCTV's annual "3.15" consumer rights show on Sunday claimed Jaguar Land Rover was selling vehicles with faulty transmissions. It also complained that Volkswagen has refused to acknowledge quality defects. The show asserted that some Mercedes-Benz, Nissan and VW dealerships overcharged for repairs and billed customers for unneeded services.
All companies cited have apologized to their customers and vowed to investigate the allegations.
CCTV has criticized carmakers before about similar issues. Foreign manufacturers have come under increasing government-backed scrutiny over the past 18 months for price gouging and laggardly recalls.
