The California Air Resources Board says it won’t decide until Jan. 14 whether to accept Volkswagen AG’s proposed repairs to bring 482,000 diesel-powered cars in the state into emission compliance.
VW submitted a repair proposal on Nov. 20 but amended the plan last week. CARB had expected to make a decision before the end of this year that affects VW brand Beetle, Golf, Jetta and Passat models equipped with 2.0-liter 4-cylinder diesels sold in 2009-2015.
The state and U.S. Environmental Protection Agency await a separate VW proposal in February to recall about 85,000 vehicles in the U.S. fitted with 3.0-liter V-6 diesels to fix a separate emission control problem. VW hasn’t been certified to sell new vehicles with either engine until the plans are approved.
