General Motors Co.'s Cadillac unit will offer diesel-powered models in the U.S. early next decade, Automotive News reports.
Affirming comments he made earlier this year, Cadillac President Johan de Nysschen tells AN the luxury brand will introduce four- and six-cylinder diesels in Europe by 2019. He says the new oil burners are "definitely" on tap for the U.S. too, but he didn't provide any other details about the program.
Other Cadillac officials previously have hinted that some future SUV models will offer diesels engines in the American market. Cadillac's chief rivals, German luxury marques Audi, BMW, Mercedes Benz and Porsche, offer a wide variety of diesels in Europe and a growing number in the U.S. including cars and SUVs.
