Tesla Motors Inc. continues to work with Bosch GmbH and Mobileye NV to improve its Autopilot driver-assist technology.
Tesla Motors Inc. continues to work with Bosch GmbH and Mobileye NV to improve its Autopilot driver-assist technology.
CEO Elon Musk praised the two suppliers over his Twitter feed on Sunday for unspecified recent enhancements. Musk also cited a “promising call” with Bosch that he expects to result in “significant improvements” to the company’s radar sensors that will be made via over-the-air software updates.
In addition, Musk says a recent poll showed “zero percent” of Tesla owners want Autopilot disabled. Last week Consumer Reports urged Tesla to turn off the system’s automatic steering function to ensure operators keep at least one hand on the wheel. The magazine also is lobbying for a new name, arguing that “Autopilot” overstates the technology’s capabilities.
Tesla has come under fire after a fatal crash and other recent accidents involving vehicles equipped with Autopilot. As he has since Tesla launched the technology last October, Musk stresses that drivers are still “responsible for” and “ultimately in control” of their vehicles.
