Robert Bosch GmbH has made an unspecified investment in Beijing-based Trunk Technologies Ltd., a Chinese startup that specializes in autonomous driving and remote-control technologies for commercial trucks.

Trunk provides integrated hardware and software systems that use artificial intelligence. The technology is designed specifically for logistics applications such as container transportation at ports and warehouses.

Trunk claims it is the first company to go into production with autonomous trucking systems for the container logistics market. The company is working with China Merchant Port (China’s largest port operator), Sinotruck and Tianjin Port.

Founded in 2017, Trunk’s management is said to consist of a mix of automotive veterans, AI experts and logistics executives. Other investors include iFlyTek—an AI company—and a pair of investment firms that specialize in logistics and related markets.
