BMW Will Add X4 Crossover Assembly in Russia
BMW AG tells Automotive News Europe it will assemble its new coupelike X4 crossover in Russia with local partner ZAO Avtotor.
BMW AG tells Automotive News Europe it will assemble its new coupelike X4 crossover in Russia with local partner ZAO Avtotor.
Production will begin this summer at Avtotor's factory in Kaliningrad. The plant will assemble an unspecified volume of the cars from semi-knockdown kits supplied from BMW's assembly plant in the U.S.
Avtotor also assembles BMW 3, 5 and 7 Series cars and X1, X3, X5 and X6 SUV/crossovers from SKD kits. BMW sales in Russia are running about 20% below year-ago levels in a market that has plunged 38%, according to the Moscow-based Assn. of European Businesses.
