BMW Mulls Motorcycle-Sharing Scheme

BMW AG is considering a service that would enable urban travelers to hitch a ride on the back of the company’s electric scooters and motorcycles.
But brand chief Peter Schwarzenbauer tells Bloomberg News says the big challenge is providing sanitary and correctly sized helmets for the riders.
Motorcycle-hailing services are already well established in southeast Asia. Schwarzenbauer notes that a similar expansion for BMW’s DriveNow short-term car rental service would help the business meet a goal of tripling its user base to 100 million users by 2025.
As a first step, BMW plans a pilot test in May that would enable consumers to rent a two-wheeler for a day or two at a time. The app-based service will be offered through select dealers in Austria, France and Germany, according to Bloomberg.
