BMW AG has agreed to hike its purchase of lithium-ion battery cells from South Korea's Samsung SDI for its i3 electric and i8 plug-in hybrid cars.
The Samsung Group unit says the multi-year deal is worth "multi-billions of euros."
Samsung has been supplying battery cells to BMW under a partnership agreement signed in 2009. Analysts say the expanded deal will help the company bolster its presence in Europe and the U.S.
