An Australian law firm has filed a class-action lawsuit on behalf of more than 90,000 Audi, Skoda and Volkswagen customers who claim the company swindled them with diesel engines rigged to evade government emission standards.
The Melbourne-based Maurice Blackburn firm says the lawsuit seeks damages in excess of A$100 million ($72 million). The ambitious claim seeks to recover the full cost of each affected vehicle, plus damages for deceptive conduct and misleading owners.
The firm, which specializes in class actions, says it has registered 10,000 owners for the lawsuit. Affected vehicles are among 11 million VW admits it equipped with cheater software that enabled them to pass nitrogen oxide emission tests but emit significantly more NOx on the road.
