Australia is opening an Office of Future Transport Technologies for autonomous vehicles and other advanced mobility systems.
The government agency will receive nearly A$10 million ($7 million) in funding. The group will work with other government agencies to help implement, coordinate and promote emerging technologies and services.
The office’s activities will help develop the infrastructure and regulations to support new technologies. The focus will be on improving public safety, cybersecurity and overall mobility accessibility and efficiency.
Complementing Australia’s current Transport Technologies Future Taskforce, the new office will help develop national standards in conjunction with the country’s laws and international guidelines.
