Snags in certifying models under Europe’s new WLTP (Worldwide Harmonized Light Vehicle Test Procedure) slashed Audi sales in Germany by 69% to only 6,900 units. Global sales fell 22% to 139,200 units.
Carmakers have been prohibited from Sept. 1 from selling cars that don’t meet the tougher WLTP rules. Audi parent Volkswagen Group began warning months ago that bottlenecks in the certification process were likely to disrupt production and sales for several months.
