German regulators have ordered Volkswagen AG’s Audi unit to replace illegal emission control software in 127,000 diesel-powered cars and SUVs sold across Europe.
KBA, Germany’s transport ministry, says the campaign targets Euro 6-spec V-6 diesels in A4, A5, A6, A7 and A8 cars and Q5 and Q7 crossover vehicles. The ministry discovered that the engines are equipped with software that switches off nitrogen oxide emission controls under real-world driving conditions, Bild am Sonntag reports.
Audi says the illegal software “will be completely revised, tested and submitted to KBA for approval.” The affected models were part of a voluntary recall of V-6 and V-8 diesels announced by the company last July. Audi says the original callback would install software to reduce NOx emissions by 20%.
