Anheuser-Busch Companies LLC says it will buy as many as 800 hydrogen-fueled highway trucks from developer Nikola Motor Co.

The beer brewer aims to introduce the trucks, which can travel as far as 1,200 miles per hydrogen fill-up, in its fleet of about 750 dedicated long-haul rigs when Nikola begins production in 2020.

Anheuser-Busch says the Nikola trucks will enable it to convert its entire long-distance dedicated fleet to vehicles that use renewable fuels by 2025.

Last December Anheuser-Busch announced it plans to add 40 of Tesla Inc.’s battery-powered Semi heavy-duty commercial tractors to its fleet. The Tesla truck can travel about 500 miles per charge, making it suitable for short- and medium-range work. Tesla says its Semi model will go into production in 2019.
