Amazon.com Inc. has unveiled a kit to help software developers build Amazon’s Alexa voice control feature into their vehicles’ infotainment systems.
The Alexa Auto Software Development Kit provides software source code, function libraries, sample apps, build scripts and other tools.
The kit enables speech recognition and synthesis, media streaming, smart-home device controls, notifications and thousands of custom skills. The package also provides the “hooks” required to enable Alexa to operate the vehicle’s media players, phone and navigation system.
Amazon says the kit supports Android and QNX operating systems. Several carmakers are already integrating Alexa into their vehicles.
