Adient plc says its “AI18” concept interior can be adapted for a variety of different uses while a vehicle is operating in Level 3 or Level 4 autonomous driving mode.
The flexible concept has five settings: Lounge, Communication, Cargo, Baby Plus and Family. By reconfiguring the seats, infotainment systems and other components, passengers can optimize space, comfort and communications, Adient says.
In Lounge mode, the seats can fully recline and pivot. The head restraint, integrated armrests and leg rest move in synch with an occupant’s body.
The interior also makes use of composites and other lightweight materials. Adient will display the AI18 concept in September at the Frankfurt auto show.
