Mazda’s Striking Paint Designs

Mazda North American Designers revealed four concept vehicles at SEMA this week.

Two are racing oriented. That makes sense. After all, can you think of another OEM that has its name on a legendary race track (Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca)?

There are the “Club Sport” versions of the Mazda3 and the Mazda6.

What are arguably more interesting from a design point of view are the Vector 3 Concept and the Ceramic 6 Concept, because their exterior paint treatments are striking without the direct racing influence.

The Vector 3 base color is Mazda Soul Red (which is actually a production color). Then Deep Crimson is used in various hues to create a “fractured line” array, bringing to the fore the vector pattern on the surface.

The Ceramic 6 base color is Ceramic White. There are Taupe Silver accent stripes. In addition, there is a satin-quality clear coat applied so that there is a matte white finish achieved.

In the cases of the Vector 3 and Ceramic 6 there is a sense of stylishness that accentuates the form language used for both of the cars, Kodo. Of the approach that Mazda Design is taking, Derek Jenkins, design director of Mazda North American Operations, said, “Mazda’s inherent driving dynamics are becoming more and more visually clear. Instead of only being a behind-the-wheel experience, the Zoom-Zoom genetic code is further being embraced, not buried, through increasingly expressive vehicle design.”
