Allegorithmic, a French developer of 3D texture and material authoring software used to design everything from digital games to advertisements, has been spending the last few weeks dropping new digital “materials” specifically created for use in automotive design.

Allegorithmic, a French developer of 3D texture and material authoring software used to design everything from digital games to advertisements, has been spending the last few weeks dropping new digital “materials” specifically created for use in automotive design.

Colors

It began on June 4 and will continue until July 5. So far they’ve released 285 materials and the company says that there are hundreds more to come for its Substance line.

The most recent cache of materials is focused on vehicle exteriors. It not only includes an array of colors that can be adjusted and modified via sliders, but there are components like grilles, rims, brake discs, headlights, license plates and rubber materials that can have treads sculpted in.

Presumably assuming that it is better to show rather than just tell, the company put together a team of designers and modelers, including Takumi Yamamoto, who worked at Peugeot-Citroën, and Frederic Gasson, who has worked with Bugatti and Renault, to create the “X-TAON, ” a photo realistic concept car with the Substance Suite.
