Although the surname of Ermenegildo Zegna might bring to mind a word used by Sheldon Cooper to signify a practical joke Ermenegildo Zegna is actually the name of a storied Milan-based fashion house specializing in men’s fashion, from suits to sportswear to fragrances through an association with Estee Lauder. Serious fashion. Not in the least bit funny.
And it is now ventured into the space of automobiles, with the Maserati Quattroporte Ermenegildo Zegna Limited Edition concept that is having its debut at the Frankfurt Motor Show.
On the exterior, the look is one of metal. To achieve it, there is a gloss black primer that is covered by a paint heavy with ultra-fine aluminum so as to provide a deep, platinum-metal appearance.
Inside, there is the use of leather for the seats, door panels, and headliner, as well as a “velvet-smooth, bright fabric” that is Zenga-like in appearance and automotive-appropriate in application.
While the car is being presented as a concept, according to Maserati the intent is to have a production car based on it in 2014.
If nothing else, it has to be the most multisyllabic name in the auto industry.
